Drugstore Hair Care Routine

I love hearing about the hair and beauty products people use in their routine. It gives me the chance to hear about new products that I might want to try and steps that I might want to add to my routine.

Lately, I’ve been using the same few products on my hair pretty consistently, so I figured it would be a good time to share my routine.

I try to wash my hair about 2 times a week, 3 times if I need to. I have thick hair that doesn’t get greasy, so 2 times is usually enough.

Plus, when you have dry skin like I do, it’s not good to wash your hair too often, especially in the winter months.

So, my routine is to wash my hair Thursdays and Sundays and use dry shampoo the other days as needed. Follow my routine below!

Wash

I like to start the week with clean fresh hair, so on Sundays, I usually wash my hair twice. First, I go in with Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. This helps remove any buildup left in my hair from other products that I’ve used throughout the week. Plus, it helps my regular shampoo lather up so nice. I love it.

Next, I wash with the L’Oréal Paris Hair Care EverPure Blonde Sulfate-Free Shampoo. I have balayage highlights that I pretty light, so I use this to keep them from turning brassy. On Thursdays, I only use this shampoo, as the Anti-Residue Shampoo should only be used once per week.

Condition

When I wash my hair, I always condition with the matching conditioner to the L’Oréal shampoo. I’ll gather all of my hair like I’m about to do a low-pony and run the conditioner through the ends of my hair.

Post-shower products

After I wash my hair, I spray in the Aussie Leave-In Conditioner and brush out my hair.

Dry

Normally I let my hair air dry. My hair has a natural wave to it, so I don’t normally style it during the week for work. Sometimes I’ll do two french braids to add more waves, but for the most part, I let it dry naturally.

If I am blow drying my hair, I like to use the Revlon blow dryer brush that everyone, including myself, is obsessed with. This makes it so easy to blow dry my hair; I recommend if you have thick hair like me to do it in smaller pieces.

Non-wash Days

On days I don’t wash my hair, I use the brunette Batiste Dry Shampoo. I’ll sometimes stray from this product as there are some qualities that I don’t love about it, but I always find my way back to it. On one hand, I love how this dry shampoo doesn’t leave a white cast on my hair as some other dry shampoos I’ve tried have.

But I often find that this product doesn’t always absorb all the way, and when I touch my hair, my hands get the product on them. I can continue to look past this for now because I haven’t found an affordable alternative. I love the living proof dry shampoo, but with the amount I use dry shampoo, I just can’t commit to the price all of the time.

On day three, my hair might start to look a little dull, that’s when I run a very small amount of hair oil throughout; I’ll take it from around my eyebrow level down to the ends. It helps keep my hair smooth, soft, and shiny. Plus, it smells really good.

So that’s pretty much it for my hair care routine. It’s pretty basic. What’s your routine look like? Leave a comment sharing below with some of your favorite products!
