I fell head over heels in love with podcasts a few years ago. I love radio talk shows and audiobooks so I guess it kind of makes sense. I really just love listening to stories. I think my dream job would be to have my own podcast/blog related to the podcast.
The more people I talk to about podcasts the more I realize I am not alone in my love for them. There are so many podcasts out there that I figured it would be a good time to share my favorites.
A podcast is a program (as of music or talk) made available in digital format to be downloaded automatically over the Internet. For those who may not have known.
Ok so let’s get to sharing:
This American Life: Each week, This American Life chooses a theme and shares a few stories based on that theme. I love how each episode tells multiple stories from different people.
This was actually the first podcast I listened to, and clearly, my love for them has been growing ever since.
Serial: This podcast is from the creators of This American Life. Like each episode being different with This American life, each season is different in Serial. The first season covers the story of Adnan Syed, a teenager who was found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend. Despite being convicted, Adnan maintains he is innocent. The whole season you are wondering if he actually committed the crime.
The second season covers the story Bowe Bergdahl and gives you background on his life prior to being captured by the Taliban and being charged with crimes by the military. I believe there is going to be a third season, but I am not sure of its exact release date or topic. I did hear a rumor it may be spring 2018, so fingers crossed.
Criminal: I actually went to a live version of this show, and it was awesome. I loved hearing the stories in a room of fellow fans. Criminal is a true crime podcast that shares stories of different crimes across time. The show is hosted by Phoebe Judge, and one of my favorite things about this podcast is her voice. She has the perfect voice to tell stories.
Another thing I love about this podcast is that each episode has an original illustration as it’s cover. When I went to the live show I got a shirt with some of the artwork on it, and I love it.
The makers of Criminal have a new show This is Love. I haven’t listened to it much yet, as you can see I am attempting to keep up with a lot of podcasts here, but I am sure it is good. Phoebe meets up with different people or couples, and they share their stories.
Caught: This is a new podcast that I heard of in an episode of Criminal. I’ve only listened to four episodes so far, but it’s really good. Caught follows a group of kids that are navigating their way through our criminal justice system. If you’re anything like me, you will hurt so bad for these kids as they share their stories from arrest, to punishment, to trying to rehabilitate back into society.
Modern Love: I can’t listen to this podcast in public because a lot of times the episodes make me cry. Modern Love shares stories from the popular New York Times column, told by notable figures. In the end, they even have an update on the essayists that wrote the story. I love hearing why the essayists chose to share their story and why the figures connected with it and chose to read the story.
Savage Lovecast: Once again, I actually learned about this podcast through another podcast. The host, Dan Savage was featured on a few episodes of This American Life. This podcast is a little bit political, a whole lot of sex and relationship advice and absolutely no filter. Each week Dan puts out a new episode in which he gives people that call in relationship advice.
Vox- Today Explained :I like to think I am pretty politically engaged and informed, but sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everything that is going on in the world. I like this podcast because it takes the top news from the day and breaks them down in an entertaining fashion that is easy to follow.
Crime Junkie: Another true crime podcast, surprise, surprise. The stories of the crimes are told conversation style by Ashley and Brit, and I feel like we’re all friends, andthey’re talking directly to me when I listen to this podcast. I have to admit, I am pretty new to this podcast, but I am obsessed! I’ve already listened to all of the episodes, maybe more than once and I need more! If you’ve longed for girl friends that you can sit around and chat about murder, missing cases and dogs with than this is the podcast for you.
Do you listen to podcasts? What are your favorites?
Thanks for reading!

I loved Adnan’s season of Serial, but didn’t get into the second one. I love true crime stuff, so I’ll be checking out some of your suggestions. Did you listen to Sh*ttown? Another good one.
