I have always loved to read. Getting caught up in an amazing story is a great escape. After working, going to the gym, texting friends and all of the other life to-dos I wasn’t finding much time to read. That’s why this year one of my resolutions was to read one book a month. This effort was not only meant for discovering great stories but also to make time for myself.
So far I’ve completed one book each month as promised. I’m checking in and sharing my progress in case anyone else out there is interested in setting some time to read. Plus summer is coming up and there is nothing better than floating in the pool with a book (well maybe floating with a cocktail) or sitting on the beach while reading.
Here’s my list below:
January: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
I read this book in order to watch the show on HBO. Of course, I ended up liking the book more than the show. The book was such a quick read. One thing I really enjoyed was the humor in the book. This was something I felt was missing in the show. In my opinion, the show was a little bit darker in comparison.
But back to the book, the story follows three women at crossroads, dealing with exes, husbands, kids, scandal and all the little lies people say to get through the day. I read this book first and it’s probably my favorite.
February: If Only You Knew by Kristan Higgins
This book is a close second to Big Little Lies. The story follows two sisters. One a high profile wedding dress designer from New York and one a mom of triplets living in the suburbs. Of course, each of them thinks the other has it all but through life’s ups and downs they realize neither one of them is perfect but they have each other.
March: Brown-eyed Girl By Lisa Kleypas
So this book was my least favorite and I just realized why….it’s book 4 in a 4 part series and I never read the first 3 books. Haha, I’m cracking up to myself. I was attracted to this book because of the title, Brown-eyed Girl. I’m a brown-eyed girl so I was intrigued.
Up and coming wedding planner Avery Crosslin meets hot, Houston bachelor, Joe Travis and wants nothing to do with him. Most of the book goes about the pair running into each other and Joe not letting up on chasing Avery. If you like quick and easy romance novels then I would recommend this book to you, of course, I would also recommend that you read the first 3 in the series.
April: The Total Package by Stephanie Evanovich
First, a little fact about me, one of my favorite things to do is find books in supermarkets or drug stores. I just think they have the best easy to read stories for a few bucks. I get a little thrill when I find a new story. That’s exactly where I found this last book and I’m happy I did.
The book takes place pretty local to me with storylines in Ardmore, PA, and Manasquan, NJ and follows star quarterback, Tyson Palmer on his road to redemption. After losing it all to partying and drug addiction, Tyson is given a second chance and cleans up his act and wins back the hearts of his fans.
Little does he know, someone from his past is about to make an appearance. Rising sports commentator and Tyson’s former tutor in college, Dani Carr is given the task of following around one of Tyson’s teammates for the season. Tyson blows her off at first, but once he remembers who she is, things ignite between them, only to explode when Dani reveals a big secret she’s been keeping.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The drama and twists kept me intrigued all the way until the end.
Next up, I am reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Of course with the intention to watch the show. Which I heard is amazing!
Have you read any of the books mentioned above? What did you think? Any recommendations? Leave a comment below!
Thanks for reading!
