A few weekends ago my boyfriend and I flew to Jacksonville, Florida so that my boyfriend could buy a car off of his parents. His vehicle is past its prime, and he needed an upgrade, which timed perfectly with his parents wanting to get rid of one of their cars. So, we flew down on Thursday spent time with his family and headed out on our drive back to New Jersey the very next day, Friday.
We didn’t have a ton of time for our road trip as we both needed to be back at work that Monday, but we had ourselves a little adventure. We made a few stops along the way that I will share with you below, keep in mind a major storm followed us all the way back! Despite the rain, we made the most of our trip, and I am so glad that we got to do this together.
Our first stop was Savannah, GA. I have always wanted to go here, and we have it on our list of places to go back to for sure. This stop was about 2 hours away from my boyfriend’s parents. We drove around this cute, little city and found a place to grab to dinner. We ate at Treylor Park, a super cute restaurant with twists on traditional dishes like flatbread and quesadillas. We had the ahi tuna flatbread with wasabi crema and ginger, the shrimp and bacon quesadillas and fried peppercinis with a zesty ranch sauce.
After dinner, we walked around the cute city and grabbed coffees to go, from the Coffee Fox. Savannah is so pretty, and I am looking forward to going back one day. We headed out with our coffees and drove to Florence, South Carolina where we stayed for the night.
The next morning we ate some breakfast at our hotel which was a Holiday Inn Express before hitting the road again. Our first stop was South of the Border, a quirky tourist location. It was an easy turn off of the main road we were traveling on. You can’t miss it because they have billboards advertising for hundreds of miles. We looked in a few of the stores which are your typical tourist gift shops and took some pictures. If you are looking for some photo-ops on your road trip, I highly recommend making a quick stop here because there are so many weird statues and signs to snap a pic with.
After South of the Border, we got back on the road for a few hours before stopping to get lunch at Zaxby’s, a really good fast-food place. We got the chicken sliders with french fries. They have so many sauces to select for your sandwiches. The food was yummy, the people were friendly, and the place was clean. It reminded of a cross between Chic-Fil-A and Panera Bread.
My boyfriend is a huge horror movie fan, so took a detour to The Cryptozoology & Paranormal Museum. It was a small house converted into a museum in Littleton, NC. One room was all about Bigfoot, and the other room had items in it that were supposedly haunted or cursed. If you’re into this stuff, then it might be worth the stop. It did have good reviews on Google, but I didn’t think it was that great.
We didn’t stop too much after this because we were getting into Virginia and other northern states that we have been to before. If you haven’t been to those areas though, I recommend stopping in D.C., Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and Delaware.
That’s all for our mini road trip! Have you ever done a road trip? Where did you stop?
Thanks for reading!

That is so fun!! Whenever we drive somewhere it’s usually straight there and straight back, but incorporating some stops sounds great!

So fun! I think I’d love that Paranormal museum, it sounds right up my alley!
I’ve been on a few road trips myself! I’ve been from Minnesota to Nevada twice, Minnesota to South Dakota & Wisconsin, Minnesota to Colorado, & Washington [state] to Oregon!
