Frugal Guide to Home Decor: Bathroom Edition

I moved in with my boyfriend a few months ago, and we have been slowly making our new apartment feel homey. Since this is an apartment and our goal is to one day own a home, we want it to look good without spending a fortune. Luckily, there are a ton of places that have quality home decor at a cheap price. It may have taken us a bit of time, but things are really starting to come to together. (Slideshow of everything is at the end)DSC07166

One thing that saved my boyfriend and I a decent amount of money when moving was the fact that we each had furniture and decorations that we brought from previous places.

The artwork on the walls has been hanging in my bedroom at my parent’s house for years. I can’t remember the price, but my parents have always helped me find really great deals when it comes to shopping.

The shower curtain and hooks came in a set from Dollar General for $13. If you have a Dollar General in your area, I highly suggest you check it out. I typically go there for cheap cleaning supplies, but you can actually find some really cute decorative items there.

My toothbrush, cotton swab and cotton ball holders were formally candles. I removed the wax and upcycled them for storage.

DSC07154The items on the shelf are flea market finds. Flea markets are one of my favorite places to find stuff because each piece has a story and a memory attached to it. The white flowers can hold t-light candles, and they were $1 each. The center candle was handmade by a vendor, it smells like the ocean, and it was $3.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this on my blog before, but I love elephants. If I find an elephant at a thrift store or a flea market, it’s coming home with me. That’s how I got this cute elephant on the sink, he was $4.

Both of the rugs and the angel wings are from Ross. They all range from $6-8. I also got a shower organizer and trash can that aren’t pictured. Both were $10 each.

DSC07157The decorative towels are from Groupon. I got them in a pack of 6 for $30. Each size towel came in a plain and patterned color. I love that I will be able to switch up the designs when I feel like it.

Well, that’s everything in my bathroom. In total this room cost less than $100 to decorate and organize. In addition to the places where I got these items, here are some of my favorite stores for cheap finds below:

Homegoods, Marshalls, TJ Maxx – I love these places because you never know what you are going to find. I can spend hours looking through the different sections of the store. Each shopping trip is a little adventure. I love that with these stores you don’t have to sacrifice quality for price.

Target– Who doesn’t love Target? Even though in my opinion, their stuff isn’t always that cheap, I still love their collections. Target is great for finding so many things for your place. They have everything!

At Home– Again, this store does have some pricier items, but it is my heaven for decorative inspo. The store is huge, and they have so much stuff. I can’t even describe it, it’s so amazing. If you have one in your area, go check it out.

A.C. Moore and Michaels – With a coupon and a sale you can find the cutest decorative items for really cheap!

Ollies Outlet– They rotate their stock based on availability, but you can find some great brands at amazing discount prices here. I recently picked up some great copper pans.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Remember, you don’t have to spend a ton to look good, feel good or be good! I love my little place that is filled with treasured bargains. What are your favorite places to shop for home decor?

If you want me to share the rest of my place plus more cheap decorating and organizing tips leave a comment below.

I love going to Home Goods, Marshalls, and Ross for home decor. I always luck up finding nice things on clearance, which saves me even more money. I do, however, need to find flea markets in Houston. I only know of one, and they’re only open on my one day of rest.

I love finding bargains that pretty up the home, and I am obsessed with places like TK Maxx and HomeScense here in the UK, not sure if you have them too? I think Target is the same as our Asda, and we get some great finds there. Thanks for sharing x

I have had a blog post sitting in my draft files for months about being frugal. I have yet to publish it. I’m following your blog after stumbling upon your article. My thoughts are in line with yours and I like what you did with the bathroom. When you mentioned dollar general, I don’t have that store in Canada but I love Dollarama. I cannot stress how much money you can save at the dollar store!

When I moved into my new flat, I came to realize that online shopping is not bad after all. I am a bit picky when it comes to home decor, I want every piece to be unique and has a story in it. So I chose to go to flea markets, fairs, or online as the most efficient way to shop. I mostly buy on localbazaar.co, they have lovely handcrafted items. You can check them out too!
