Self Tanning: Hits and Misses

I can’t believe that Memorial Day weekend is around the corner. This year is flying by! I am so ready for summer but I am most definitely not ready for that first day on the beach. Stripping down to a bathing suit with winter skin that hasn’t seen the sun in months is not the highlight of my life.

Naturally, I am in that fair to medium skin tone range. I have spent many summers getting a tan by the pool or down the shore but thanks to my 9 to 5 I don’t get as much time out in the sun.

That’s why I’m happy to have found a way to fake a beach glow without the sand! This summer I’ll be bronzed and ready to hit the beach thanks to my favorite self-tanners.

Here is my list of favorite self-tanning products and some that didn’t work out for me.

St. Tropez Tanning Mousse in Dark: I like to use this mousse when I need a confidence boost for an event or just to go out for a night. Something about tan glowing skin makes me feel so much better about myself. The quick application makes it easy to get a tan whenever you need. I’ve also tried the mouse in the lighter shade and like that as well.

St. Tropez Gradual Tanner: After trying the tanning mousse a few year’s ago I was curious to try the gradual tanning lotion. I expected it to be a lot like Jergens that gives you a subtle glow after a few uses. Boy, were my expectations exceeded. I used the lotion once and I woke up a gorgeous tan. Nothing gradual about it, although you can build it up over time. I was surprised by how quick the color payoff was.

St. Tropez Gradual in-shower Tanner: I’m not going to lie sometimes I get really lazy and skip putting on body lotion after the shower. If I can get my moisturizer on in the shower I am so much more likely to use it, that’s what drew me into this next product. It may be a little complicated to use because you have to let it sit for a bit then rinse it off but, like many of the St. Tropez products it has great color pay off.

Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer: I saw this in CVS and thought it would be a great alternative to the bit pricier, St. Tropez Gradual in shower Tanner. I have used the original Jergens for years and I have loved it but, I didn’t like this in shower version as much. Maybe I have been spoiled by the higher-end products I have been using but I found this lotion to be a bit streaky.

What are your favorite self-tanning/tan maintenance products?

Thanks for reading!
